Last-minute beauty for the holidays
Written by Amelia MularzOkay, let’s get serious. With Christmas just a week away, it’s time to check off those last few people on your gift list. Have you hit a retail roadblock? I’ve got beauty gifts for all those impossible-to-buy-for people. Bonus: everything is $25 or less…
What you’re thinking: She’s only into practical gifts, and yet, that decoupage Kleenex box I gave her last year didn’t seem to go over too well.
What she’ll love: Infusion Organique Hand & Body Lotion, $20, InfusionOrganique.com
Other than a spritz of perfume here and there, my mom doesn’t indulge in too many beauty extravagances. And yet, even my low-key mother will appreciate this hand and body lotion. I imagine her putting it right next to the kitchen sink and enjoying a scent like Buddha’s Fig throughout the day.
What you’re thinking: I’d like to give something with a personal touch. Is a monogram bathrobe really the only way to go?
What she’ll love: The Recipe Box, $18, Philosophy.com
No need to start slapping initials on everything. This shower gel duo in Fresh Baked Apple Pie and Spicy Pumpkin Muffin comes packed in a fully functional recipe box. Personalize it by writing up a few recipe cards of your own.
What you’re thinking: I have plenty of ideas…it’s just that my bank account and those ideas don’t quite see eye to eye.
What she’ll love: Aquiesse Pomegranate Sage Candle, $20, CandleDelirium.com
I get a little nervous when my sister’s annual wish list involves financing options. I like to think this luxe candle is at least a nod to her good taste (with a price tag that matches mine).
What you’re thinking: I miss the good ol’ days when buying for my brother meant a comic book or a pack of Big League Chew.
What he’ll love: PureScience Jet Set Traveler, $25, GetJackBlack.com
A travel kit with a cleanser, shaving cream, and moisturizer — this is the kind of thing most guys will enjoy, but would never buy for themselves. I’d just avoid describing it as a “beauty product” when you give it to him.
Love the suggestions on this page! I also recommend homemade goodies, especially if you're a decent baker--nothing beats homemade cookies wrapped in a pretty tin.
