Bling in the New Year!
Written by Amelia MularzFor me, sequins have always signaled a celebration. I get this from my grandma who had a special sequin-adorned sweater reserved for holiday parties. It was really a no frills cardigan — plain green with no more than 10 individual sequins arranged as a wreath on the left side, but the second she slipped it on she’d exclaim, “It’s a party!” I think it was the sequins that did it. So, with everyone scrambling to make New Year’s Eve plans, I thought I’d give you guys a few sequin options of your own for the big party. Return those unwanted sweaters and socks this weekend and pick up some of these sparklers. Take the less-is-more approach (like my grandma) or go all out.
Just A Touch: Sequin Halo Headband, $12, FreePeople.com Don’t want to shine brighter than the ball dropping in Times Square? Sequins in your hair are subtle, but still fun.
Test the waters: Sequin Box Purse, $38, UrbanOutfitters.com Now we’re upping the sequin factor a bit — and adding bold color! I can’t think of a better way to carry your lipstick on New Years than in a little purple box purse.
Give it a go: Trophy Sequin Scarf, $60, US.Topshop.com I’m kind of leaning towards a low-key night this year (hey, been a long decade), but even if I’m just in jeans and a t-shirt, adding this scarf immediately puts me in a festive mood.
The whole nine yards: Paintbox Dress, $348, USA.FrenchConnection.com Now it’s really a party! This scoop neck shift is just dripping with the blingy goods. Keep the rest of your look simple — black tights and heels. I can’t imagine what kind of celebration would warrant this many sequins in my grandma’s mind…the Oscars? Dinner with the president? Winning the Nobel Prize? Go crazy kids…
Happy New Year Everybody!
