No time for breakfast? Not anymore!
Written by Rachel Berman
There’s nothing like waking up on these cold winter mornings to a nice hot breakfast, but scrambled eggs and French toast take time (that I don’t typically have) to prepare. Cereal and yogurt are fast, but don’t always give me that satisfied feeling I need to start my day off right. That’s why I love oatmeal — it’s hot, quick and easy (not to mention really good for you!) And my oatmeal of choice is steel cut oats: they’re less processed and taste better than the typical instant rolled oats. But, alas, they also take longer to prepare (which is counterintuitive to my whole spiel above).
That’s why I was so psyched to find Coach’s Oats. It’s a new oatmeal brand that starts with whole grain oats, then toasts them and cracks them to maintain that nutty texture and flavor you love. The end product? Instant oatmeal with only one ingredient: whole grain oats. That’s about 12 less ingredients than you’d find in your average store-bought rolled instant oatmeal. Just stick in a bowl, add water or low-fat milk and microwave for 3 minutes. And yes, a long-time gymnastics coach developed this product with his family because he wanted only the best for them and his team.
In ¾ cup you’ll get 120 calories, 20 g carbs, 3 grams of fiber and 4.5 grams protein. I like to add some toppings for flavor and a boost to keep me satisfied all morning long. Try some chopped nuts or ground flaxseed for a nutty flavor. Dried/fresh fruit or a touch of honey for something sweet. Cinnamon, nutmeg for a savory kick. And if you’re feeling crazy, I like mixing with Greek yogurt or a tablespoon of peanut butter for extra protein.
Stick with the Coach for a hearty breakfast, which will stick to your stomach without any nonsense. Go team!
