Time for Lunch: National Day of Action - September 7th, 2009
Your child is heading back to school which may mean you are in store for a little peace and quiet. That is, of course, unless you are concerned about the mystery meat being served in the school cafeteria! Well, you are not alone. Slow Food USA is a non-profit organization which has heightened the awareness of the poor quality of school lunches with it's "Time for Lunch" program. This Labor Day, September 7th, 2009 you can take part in (or organize your own event for) the "National Eat-In."
Who: Anyone who wants to take action and improve school lunch.
Why: To get Congress' attention! The Child Nutrition Act is up for reauthorization this month but Slow Food is petitioning for change: For $1 extra per child be allotted for better, and more importantly, healthier lunches, to fund farm-to-school programs, school gardens and also to tighten nutritional guidelines.
Where: Click here for a list of eat-ins in your area. There's at least one already set up in every state.
What: Show up and eat a delicious meal courtesy of Slow Food.

And the winner of the Naked Nuggets contest is...
Allie from Tallahassee, FL. We were very impressed with how creative all your entries were! But Allie's innovative thinking won her 3 bags of this healthy chicken nugget product!
There would be two ways I'd chow down on Naked Nuggets. I'm big on the idea of "Mini-Meals" around 3 o'clock--so my top ways to eat NakedNuggets would be:
And the winner of a variety pack of KIND bars is...
Stephanie, age 47 from Bay Shore, NY. As great as all of your entries were, there is nothing much KINDer than giving a body part. Seriously.
I did something kind for my brother. He was in renal failure and on July 28, 2008 I gave him one of my kidneys. In two weeks it will be a year since the surgery and I am happy to say he and myself are doing great!
Stephanie will receive a variety pack of KIND bars, which is very little compared to the fact that she saved her brother's life!
And the winner of a box of Figamajigs is...
Rachael B. from Grove City, PA. She feels tempted by comfort foods and treats brought in by her coworkers. Who doesn't?
I work for a great company called Earth Sun Moon. The whole company feels like one big family. For our little "family" food is also a big expression of love. At least once a week, if not more often, someone brings a yummy home-baked goody to share with everyone. That means cakes, fudges, cookies, cupcakes, pies...you name it! I've been trying to cut back on heavy desserts in my diet, but all those sweets near my desk all day are killing me! If I won Skinny's Figamajigs I would definitely tuck them in my desk drawer and take them out in my moments of weakness. Who knows, I might get all my coworkers hooked on them too!
Thanks for all the great tips! I love Skinny!
We love you too Rachael! And for everyone else, click here to find out why Figamajig is one of our latest obsessions.
